(yes, my cake is on a paper plate)
(sorry I’m not technically advanced enough to know how to flip this picture. But hey, I’ve got new mixing bowls and cake pans, so just stare at the pictures!)
I just received the Magnolia Bakery cookbook in the mail and wanted to try their world famous cake recipes. My only problem is, I can’t eat two dozen cupcakes or a three layer cake! So who can I make this for and not have to eat it? Bro, it’s time to fatten you up! I know my brother loves yellow cake with chocolate frosting, so I hope he’s up for eating this! It looks delish and smells so yum. Just hope the layers don’t fly off during transport (that’s a problem with having tasters live over hills and around corners from you.).
This recipe was super simple, which is a blessing on a Friday night (single girl, at home baking!) after a LONG week in clinical orientations for school. Seriously, math exams at 7:15am should be illegal! Anyways, the recipe was super simple and the frosting came together beautifully. The frosting involoved melting chocolate over a double-boiler and then incorporating it into the butter (don’t ask how much, you’ll cry), milk and vanilla, then beat in powdered sugar. It turns out silky smooth and oh-so-good! It spreads like butta’ onto the cake. Mmmmm… So, I used the highest quality chocolate to try to counteract the fact that I bought cheap-o flour, sugar, powdered sugar, and butter. Think it’ll work? Probably not, but if I’ve never bought the stuff in name brand, hopefully my brother hasn’t either and he won’t know the difference (or at least have the class to smile and bare it and tell me I’m the greatest sister in the world…).
PS can you tell I’m back in my crappy ugly kitchen? No pretty counter-tops like at my parents’ house.
