Well I realized that I have never attempted to make a bread besides a quick-bread (beer, pumpkin, banana, etc) all on my own…
The addition of a starter, Miss Mango, to my kitchen made me realize I need to brush up on my bread skills before I start my endeavor to become a pro-sourdough-bread-woman (at least on the weekends). Well, let’s just say it didn’t go as planned (imagine that!). My yeast must have been weak because it didn’t rise as much as it should have after many hours of warm waiting. So, I think I committed a cardinal baking sin and just baked it anyways! Hahaha…yes I am aware that it’s not a smart thing to do!
Well, my loaf looks pretty (the yellow-tinged picture does it no justice!), and looks are half the battle, right? Ok, with bread I admit that 95% of it is how it tastes and feels…
It certainly smelled beautiful and I felt so pro because I baked it on the bottom of my stone baking dish. It was a combo white-wheat loaf so it’s partially healthy, right?
Well, my self-complimenting stops there! This loaf weighs a hundred pounds (perfect weapon for the next food fight…whenever that is) and tastes like thick flour (trust me, I took one too many bites of it). Oh yum…not. Well, I’ll definitely practice a LOT more over the next few months. This also makes me just that much more excited to bake a cake…something I’m good at!
