Today I made snickerdoodles…mini sinckerdoodles to be precise. I’ve been burnt out on chocolate lately and have been wanting a non-chocolate cookie to bring to my classmates. Solution? Cinnamon and sugar! (or lemon…but that’s for another day)
I decided to use Martha’s cookie recipe. I followed the recipe but added a splash of vanilla extract (because a dough without vanilla extract does not a cookie make). I’ve been contemplating my “relationship” with the Martha lately. I’ve always referred to her as my friend and said that we would be best friends if she would only meet me…but I’ve decided otherwise lately. I’d like to compare it to a Harry Potter – Lord Voldemort relationship. For all of you non-dorks out there (shame on you), basically one cannot live while the other is still alive, and one must kill the other. Martha is Lord Voldemort and she’s old fashioned, she sifts all of her dry ingredients, she uses every bowl in the kitchen, everything is uniform, she hates children, and she interrupts everyone and scares the crap out of anyone who doesn’t embroider in small straight stitches. I’m Harry Potter, young and vibrant, I don’t sift unless I’ve had a lapse in judgement, I consolidate my dish-usage while baking and cooking, I try to listen, and I don’t scare anybody with my embroidery because I don’t pressure people to sew with me. Although she may be the god of craftage and baking, let’s admit it, there’s only so many times I’m going to put up with a recipe that looks like perfection on her show and turns out like s*** in my kitchen (yes, while not making substitutions). One will prevail? Let me tell you, don’t bet against my baked goods! Maybe I don’t need my friendship with her as badly as I thought I did, because I have cinnamon and sugar in my life!
Back to the sinckerdoodles…they turned out great but I’d like to atribute that to my vanilla. My only problem with them is they didn’t spread out as much as normal snickerdoodles do. Yes, I followed all the directions, and no, I’m not dumb…even some commenters on her recipe said the cookies were smaller and didn’t spread like the typical ones (though thick cookies are yum).
Anyways, it’s late and I baked cookies instead of making dinner, so I’m eating late tonight then hitting the books! My classmates will love these!
