Happy Saturday, it’s almost Halloween! What I love about Saturdays is that I usually get to go wander around the farmers market, but because my car was frozen…I decided to stay in, enjoy some French press coffee and raspberry cream cold super oats!
I’ve been having long discussions lately with Jessi about dulce de leche. During her trip to Argentina, she realized her deep and abiding love for the sweet caramel-y treat. She even brought me a whole jar of the coveted condiment! I love when she goes on all these adventures, because she always brings me the most heartfelt gifts: things to bake with. Through said discussions, we decided that we had to make our own dulce de leche, and my stipulation was that I wanted to try to make the fat free version (imagine that).
This couldn’t be simpler, and as long as you have a deep, heavy pot OR a slow cooker, you have all the tools you need.
The possibilities are endless for this sweet treat! At only 110 calories for 2 Tbs, you can smear it on apples, drizzle it on pie, bake it into granola bars, or heat it up and use it as an ice cream topper! It would even be yummy swirled into a blookie (remember my blondie cookie?). It is literally one of the easiest gifts you could give to a great friend or a new neighbor, and they’ll really be impressed!
Strike up a conversation: How would you use your fat free dulce de leche?

I LOVE it! Just put some of my dulce on ice cream. Yum:)

Another way to make this is to pour the sweetened condensed milk into canning jars with a tight lid. Then follow the same directions. The benefits to this method is that you will be able to see how dark your dulce is getting. You can’t do that with a can.
