Today, I’m organizing a lot of fun and easy recipes to knock out during this hectic holiday season. So, I’m going to be running around all day, shopping and baking and such…so I’m sharing with you my latest foray into the world of energy bar sampling!
I’ve been eating a lot of energy bars that fall into the “raw” category. They are primarily made of fruit and nuts and sometimes a protein. This most resembles my Buddy Bars! So, when I saw a bar that boasted similar ingredients plus protein, I knew I had to try it. Raw Revolution offers many flavors, but I’ll talk about just a few of them.
First of all, I had to keep to my personal standard, which means I didn’t want a bar that was more than 200 calories. For Raw Revolution, that left me with either the snack version of their flavors (all of the snack sizes are around 100 calories) or their fruit flavor bars (which are a large bar for approximately 150 calories…that’s a great deal!). I tried the fruit flavors first. There was Lemon Dew, Apple Cinnamon, and Tropical Banana. I liked the Tropical Banana the best, perhaps because it reminded me of a play on banana bread. I was thrown off, however, because I realized that I had never had hemp protein before. It is definitely an acquired taste because it isn’t a flavor that is easily masked by the flavors in the bar. Because of this, I preferred the snack bars which had stronger flavors (primarily chocolate-based).
I really enjoyed the chocolate coconut (go figure) and chocolate cashew flavors of the snack size. And because the little 100 calorie snacks still packed 3-4 grams of protein, I didn’t feel guilty! Plus, the coconut one had a very defined flavor and it was just so yummy!
In all, I really respect companies that put out a “real food” product, packed with nutrients. Vegans and non-vegans alike will love this bar. If you live in the NWA area, you can find several flavors of this bar in Ozark Natural Foods.
