I decided to go visit my parents this weekend, which meant another long trek to the Chicagoland area. It was both my mom’s and my brother’s birthdays within the last week, so we celebrated with lots of treats and food adventures around downtown. Here are some photos from the trip and great places to keep in mind if you decide to visit too!
Shedd Aquarium: We found Nemo! And Nemo found a seahorse!
Shedd Aquarium: Jellyfish!
The Chicago skyline
The famous Magnolia Bakery now has a Chicago location
Magnolia Bakery: Chocolate cupcake with vanilla buttercream and their iconic swirl. The cake and buttercream unite and melt in your mouth! I couldn’t resist a bite…then I turned to what I ordered…
Magnolia Bakery: Chocolate Flourless Cake was the gluten-free choice. So rich and satisfying.
Simply Thalia: Delish steamed pork dumplings
La Vanille: beautiful house-made croissants and chocolate croissants (as seen on Cooking Channel’s Unique Sweets)
La Vanille: Beautiful and very tasty macaroons (Banana Chocolate, Strawberry Lemongrass, Chocolate Nutella, Coconut)
Belly Shack: Chef Kim was given the Michelin Bib Gormand for 2011 and 2012!
Belly Shack: Korean BBQ Beef with Kimchi and flat bread. Probably the most amazing thing I’ve tasted in a LONG time! We had the brussel sprouts too which were amazing.
