Part of staying fit (or getting fit) is going to the doctor, right? Well…I don’t really do that. Yeah, I know, it’s bad.
I go once a year. And every year, I tell myself I’m going to make a change and go 2-3 times a year instead…
Still haven’t made that change yet. Maybe this year? By “this year” I’m referring to a year in the “doctor’s calendar” sense of the word…since I go every October.
I’m going next Friday, and I’ve been preparing for a few weeks now. No, I’m not crazy, I just have to make my one visit count!
I start a list of any symptoms or questions I’ve been meaning to bring up. Over the weeks, I find that I remember more and more little things that have been bugging me and that I’ve been needing to ask a pro about. So, now my list is a mile long and I’m praying this new doctor is patient enough to go through the whole thing with me and not call me a hypochondriac by the end of it! We shall see!
Besides that, I’ve started a new fitness goal. I made an 8-week strength training (weightlifting) program for myself and I can’t wait to see if I get the results I want in the end! I’ll be measuring myself weekly (not weighing!) to see if I’m making progress. So, you’ll see that my workouts will start to change a lot and be mostly focused on weight training specific body groups. [And I’m totally dedicated to making this work, so not even days of cake tasting and venue hunting will knock me down!]
Finally, I’ve resolved to work on my posture. Every few months or so, I say I’m going to get this problem nipped in the butt…but I sink back into my usual ways (quite literally).
When your fiancé points out that you have terrible “weird” posture, it makes you feel pretty gross (don’t you know that I know I’ve been holding myself like this for the last 24 years??). I use to try to sit up straight, but honestly, I’ve been living with such bad back pain that it would literally hurt to sit up! And if we went anywhere that would have only barstools, I would stand the whole time (please stop taking me there!). Lately, though, my back pain has been slightly (slightly) better, so I’m going to try to fix this again! Straight, tall, and lean-looking me, here I come!
The Sweaty Breakdown:
Saturday:A power walk around the city with my mom, since she was visiting! Plus, 50 jump squats, sit-ups, and planks!
Sunday: Today I worked my way through each of the weight machines, working total body in the gym.
Monday: I started my weights routine with a jump rope warm-up. Today was Shoulders and Back for weights!
Tuesday: A nice walk with my honey, followed by my weight routine for today – Quads, Hamstrings, and Abs
Wednesday: Rest day from weights. I took my sore legs on a power walk around Memphis.
Thursday: I completed a 30 min treadmill workout (which was continuously running at an increasing speed, then decreasing the speed until it was over), followed by an additional 10 min on the treatmill; today’s strength training was calves and total legs.
Oh! PS– I was granted the title of FitFluential Ambassador this week! I am so excited! I applied for this program months ago, so hearing back that I’ve been accepted just makes me so overjoyed! This means great things to come for Treats With a Twist!
Fabulous Fitness Finds:
I was sent Scat! Bars to try. I love granola bars, especially when they have adorable animal pictures on the front and are made out of totally real ingredients, like nuts, seeds, oats, and berries. They are a bit too high in calories for my comfort zone, but because they are packed with yummy goodness, I found that half of a bar was a great snack to hold me until dinner! Plus, they also have adorable trail mix packs too! The one I received has almonds, cherries, and chocolate covered coffee beans in it! My favorite!
My favorite bar is the Bear. It has almonds, dried blueberries, and a touch of real maple. Yum! If you eat the whole bar, it’s 293 calories, 31 carbs, and 11 grams of protein; so yes, I ate half and saved the other half for another day!
I don’t know about you, but great tea is hard to find. I love trying strange and interesting flavors, but I hate when tea is loaded with really fakey gross flavors. This tea is absolutely amazing! Apparently, it’s the Starbucks of the tea world in Canada, but I had never tried it before (I’ve never gone that far north before!). I was so excited to order all of their flavors when I started scouring through their website! There are hundreds of flavors of tea! And to make their interesting flavors, they put real ingredients in there – toasted nuts, chocolate curls, brittle pieces, popcorn kernels, dried fruits…yup! Real stuff!
They have tons of dessert-like flavors which totally caught my eye! Tea is a low cal way to get a taste of what you love without punching your calories through the roof for the day! I LOVE the Banana Nut Bread and the Chocolate Orange so far! But, I have a lot more flavors to try!
