Do you watch Dr. Oz?
Well, you probably shouldn’t. No, I’m not bashing him in any way. I’m just saying, he’s put all of these ideas in my head.
Don’t even get me started on how many diseases I must have because my head itches and my fingers turn purple when it’s cold .
But when he tells me all of these home remedies to try, I can’t help but do them. When I’m watching the show, I’m thinking “that’s stupid, nobody should do that.” But…yup, I just can’t help myself.
And apparently you can’t either. Because when I go to Whole Foods, usually I hear at least two people talking about the episode from the day before and everything is sold out that he’s even mentioned. Yup, two weeks to get my next experiment in stock.
Well, the other day, he was giving diet tips. Oh I love that. I can’t help but listen. He was telling people to chug a tall glass of water mixed with 2 Tbs. of chia seeds. Yup. He said to chug this instead of your afternoon chocolate bar, and your stomach would fill up, and you won’t need that chocolate OR ¾ of your dinner!
Have you seen chia after it has set? That’s what I make chia pudding out of. Anyways, it forms a jelly because it absorbs so much water, and that’s what it is going to do in your tummy and make you full. Trust me, I use them in other things and love them, but I was not prepared for this.
It honestly couldn’t hurt you. But let me say, it’s super awful if you’re a person that can’t stand swallowing things whole that need to be chewed. When I feel seeds pass through my mouth I have to chew (raspberry smoothies and anything with kiwis are really tough to just drink up).
For the sake of giving advice, I tried it. I mixed a small glass (probably 8 oz) with just ½ Tbs. of chia (2 Tbs. is a ton!) and chugged. I felt immediately dizzy just trying to drink without chewing and letting all the little seeds fly down my throat. I HATED it!!! I’ll never do it again! And because I’m such a head-case, I swear I felt nauseated afterwards. Lesson? If you absolutely need appetite suppression and can chug a kiwi/blackberry/raspberry smoothie no problem, then go for it! Have fun. I won’t be joining you.
The Sweaty Breakdown:
Friday: 16 min cardio interval workout! This will really get your heart pumping and you’ll be done before you know it! It was great to have a quick but effective workout to do because I had a huge day filled with doctors visits today (my own and then the vet for our little Twilah).
Saturday: 16 min cardio interval with mostly abs work for the alternating intervals; strength training – shoulders, triceps, and core
Sunday: a cardio interval workout using the stationary bike!
Monday: back and abs strength-training
Tuesday: I did a super-powered workout tonight! I was planning on running, but the treadmills and elliptical machines in my gym are all broken, and the only thing left is one stationary bike (quite the gym, right?), I hopped on and turned it into quite the calorie-burner. Since I was the only person in the gym, I had no problem looking ridiculous and keeping my arms dancing, moving, and windmillingthe whole time (you should see me drive!). This upped my heart rate and calorie burn. Plus, I ended with plank and a good stretch. Oh, and frozen yogurt 🙂
Wednesday: day of rest! Happy Halloween! I carved my white pumpkin tonight while hanging out with my puppies.
Thursday: This wasn’t supposed to be another day of rest but I had some personal things to attend to, including spending time with the mister, who was out of town all week. I’ll jump back into it tomorrow.
Fabulous Fitness Finds:
GNC Lean Shake*: Peppermint Mocha and Pumpkin Spice
I’m a sucker for seasonal flavors. If you tell me I can only get something 2 months of the year, I’m going to spend the other 10 months pining for that time of year and wishing I could have whatever happens to be so exclusive. What can I say? Anyways, the seasonal flavors have no boundaries (coffee, candy, nutrition bars, snack cakes, ice cream…)and I was psyched to find that even protein powders are going seasonal! I put protein powder in everything, and because “Proats” (protein oatmeal) are a staple in my diet, I knew I had to try these new flavors. I LOVE the Pumpkin Spice! It turns a beautiful orange hue in my bowl and makes everything taste of slightly sweet, slightly spiced pumpkin. It’s not overly flavored and doesn’t leave an aftertaste, and I just adore it (I even made protein pancakes out of it!). I like the Peppermint Mocha too. It’s makes my oats into a creamy chocolate dream, and makes a wonderful Christmas-y protein shake! I only wish this one had even more chocolatey flavor.
They each have a great nutritional profile; a serving is 200 calories, 25 grams of protein, 8 grams of fiber, and only 4 grams of sugar. I love that one serving is two scoops, making it easy to add just a half portion to a recipe! Get um while they’re here! Until November 5th, you can use the code 20101 at checkout in stores or online and get $5 off!
This is my breakfast bowl! Pumpkin Spice protein oat bran with cinnamon, allspice, maca, chia; topped with egg white/spinach/pb2 scramble and another shake of cinnamon! Yes, it’s delish; you just have to try it for yourself 🙂
*I purchased these with my own money and the review and opinions are totally my own.

Love that Polar watch!! I have a Mio Active, and I love it. It’s a pedometer, heart rate monitor, and a calorie counter. I love it so much that I wear it to sleep…
