Happy Friday!!!
I’ve been in a workout funk lately. And it’s not a bad thing! I haven’t been fighting it either!
My body has been craving relaxation and recovery because I’ve been traveling so much and generally very stressed out, so I’ve been obliging. Nothing too strenuous, I’ve been mostly wanting walks and yoga and a few quick workouts (I’m talking really quick…like 10 minute circuits). Maybe it’s the sunshine, or maybe its the need to recover after months of regimented and scheduled workouts. Whatever it is, I’m listening.
Sometimes its needed. I don’t like when people brag about how they push through the need to relax and how they pumped out a vigorous workout when they’re sick or tired. I bet that workout didn’t benefit their bodies like they thought it did…just food for thought.
I’m just trying to say, listen to your body. (I know you’ve heard it over and over.) And if you think you’ll feel guilty by doing yoga instead of your usual calorie-torchr, then ditch the calorie counting meter and do your yoga without the numbers burdening you (that’s what I’ve done lately).
You can never predict how your body will feel day-to-day, so its totally ok to change your mind from the routine you had planned.
Sorry to go on a preachy rant, just wanted to tell you to relax a bit. You deserve it.
The Sweaty Breakdown:
Friday:
My mom and I took a nice long evening walk together. I was in St. Louis (remember?), so I love taking walks with my mom so we can have serious conversations.

A big salad! Filled with lots of greens, veggies, peppers, asparagus, and avocado. Side of smoked salmon and celery with hummus (no worries, there was more hummus after the picture!).
Saturday:
Woke up and did an ab workout (crunches, straight leg raises, planks) before a day of wedding planning appointments! Running around all day is a total workout…right?

Yummy night time snack! Yogurt topped with chocolate protein, pomegranates, almonds, and blackberries (maybe a chocolate covered almond too!).
Sunday:

Spicy and sweet breakfasty treat! I had my Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Oats topped with a dollop of yo and some berries and cinn…and an egg with kimchi too!
I was in the car traveling back to Memphis, so I totally took a rest day.

This is what I packed for my road trip lunch! Smoked salmon, some yummy fancy cheese, and some celery and cucumbers with hummus!
Monday:
I did an early morning HIIT treadmill sprint workout! I actually did the same one as last Monday (here it is…under “Monday”) and added pushups at the end!
Tuesday:

We received free tickets to the Memphis Redbirds baseball game! What a fun way to spend a beautiful evening!
Rest day! I soaked up the sunshine today, read a book for my soul, and texted a dear friend!
Wednesday:
I did a burst circuit! It was very similar to the ones seen in last week’s workouts, but I made a new one with 6 moves and really kept my heart rate up!
Thursday:

Totally loving my breakfast! Maple cinnamon pb oats topped with cinnamon zucchini egg whites! Good morning indeed!
Let’s just say, walking anywhere in heels is what I call a workout! I went to a concert, did some dancing, then walked home too! Feel the burn!
This Week’s Treats:
Blackberry Crumble Breakfast Bars:Β
So that was it! As you’re reading this…I’m on the road again! I’m off to another city to hang out with my mamma…again π
Strike up a conversation: What was your favorite meal or workout from the week?
Do you give your body enough rest?
mmm hello there sushi!!
I love this post! I wish more people would listen to their BODY and not their MIND when it comes to working out. If your body is crying for rest, take a day off. Or even slow it down a bit.
My favorite workout this week was my first day back to TRX after a week on vacation. It felt so good to be back!
If your body wants rest, then rest! Good going, so many people won’t listen to their body! Zuchinni in oatmeal? I never thought of that!
So glad you are honoring your body with rest and relaxation. I have a really difficult time with that.. I feel the need to go go go. Fortunately, this week I did take a rest day to enjoy an extra hour and a half of sleep. I must say that I was not mad at myself for that π happy Friday, Melissa!
Sushi, sushi, SUUUUUUSHIIIIIIIIIII! And seriously, you’ve got me craving some smoked salmon like mad crazy now! I picked some up at the store a couple of weeks ago (they sell bits and pieces on the cheap at the sushi bar) but I knew I couldn’t finish it all before it went bad so I stuck ’em in the freezer…hoping when I thaw them out, they won’t be “weird” :-/
Those oats with the zucchini egg whites? Be still my heart! Mmm, now I’m thinking I need to bust out with some of my zucchini bread oats! LOVE!
I was totally over that orange glitter combo, so I just repainted my nails. Guess what color I chose? PINK! Haha, twins! π Oh and no shit, walking in heels? TOTAL workout…especially when you don’t wear them often!
Favorite meal of the week: spinach salad topped with a pork burger, feta (FULL fat! OMG! Haha!), sundried tomato, olives, and Greek dressing!
Favorite workout for the week: Ha, yeah right! But I DID get to do some work on the bicycle for PT…no resistance but my range of motion is definitely improving! π
I’ve got this rest thing in the BAG! Ohhhh, one of these days I’ll get to workout again! *looks to the sky and begins to pray* Lol
Work for me this week has been extra stressful which has meant lots of overindulging on food and alcohol and taking days off from exercise. I think you are right that sometimes you need to listen to your body or mind for what it needs. I find usually when I’ve had a rest from exercise I come back more motivated than ever π
Cucumber wrapped sushi is my JAM! π I am obsessed but I eat it too quickly and then want to order another go-around immediately afterward – lol!
Wow. So many delicious Asian-spired food I want to eat right now. Seaweed salad and sushi would be perfect on this hot afternoon.
It is so funny that I am catching up on this post at this particular moment. I have been REALLY bad about taking rest days, and I can feel my legs saying, “SLOW DOWN” but my brain says “GO!” Before I relaxed on the calorie counting, I never would have considered yoga to be a workout for the day, but now I LOVE it–of course, Vinyasa is no joke. π I’m trying to be better about thinking, “A day of rest is what you need.” But it can be really hard.
Oh me too! I would have never considered yoga a workout until recently! So now instead of doing it on a rest day, I do it on a workout day and thats it. My muscles thank me for it later π
