I’m having a lot of trouble comprehending that Thanksgiving is next week. That I’ll be helping my mom make a feast in just a matter of days. I’ve already planned the whole thing! I’m excited yet still baffled that it’s only days away.
Remember this amazing Black Bottom Peanut Butter Pumpkin Pie I made last year?? What about these Pumpkin Pot de Cremes?? Or my Pumpkin Chai Cupcakes?? I definitely have even bigger plans for this year’s crazy pie (and, of course, a traditional pumpkin pie too).
I think my pants just popped their button just thinking about it all.
About that. The pants. The button. The meals. Remember that Thanksgiving dinner is just ONE meal (and a thousand appetizers), so take it slow. Slow down and taste what you have been dreaming about all year. Savor it.
And don’t feel a need to indulge for every meal and snack for the week surrounding it, because that’s usually where we get into a lot of trouble.
Consider that my hint of a hint…I’m not going to lecture because that’s just not cool. Plus, lectures make us want to run straight for the candy bowl in protest, right?
Speaking of healthier snacks, my peeps at Quest Bar sent me their newest flavor, Double Chocolate Chunk!! Woo hoo! And, because I loved it so much and loved the nutritional stats on it, they told me I could share some with you!
Now, let’s take a look, because when we are desperate for a chocolate fix, we can find ourselves in a real calorie tail-spin. And you and I both know that you’re reaching for that candy bar as merely an appetizer to the snack that you know you’ll have to have anyways because you’re still hungry.
You might have been tempted to reach for…
This one (rhymes with knickers) or…
This one (rhymes with silky sway) or…
These (rhymes with pieces)
But gosh, you’re still hungry, right?! How about instead you reach for this one…
These are the stats on the new Double Chocolate Chunk bar! And you not only get your chocolate fix, but you get a filling dose of protein and fiber too! Killer smart. And, of course, warmed…ohmageeee it is SO good.
Ok, you want to win a box, right? THREE winners will be chosen (US or Canada) next week on Saturday (yup, consider entering and telling all of your friends to enter as part of Black Friday shopping)! Good luck!
Don’t forget to check out the Treats from the week! I made you some Peanut Butter Chip Donuts (yes, they’re healthy!)
and Cherry “Buttermilk” Pancakes!

My favorite thanksgiving tradition is just my family coming to my mom’s, all together, eating in the middle of the day, and then just being lazy on the couch (most likely napping). It really is a time to enjoy my family, and I love that we take a few days to be together! I may also try to do some black Friday shopping, but not totally sure yet!

I’m on call for Thanksgiving so I won’t be doing anything until Friday when I’ll have Thanksgiving with my family.

Seriously, we need to get Quest to make a friggin pumpkin pie flavor! Get on that would ya Miss A-FEEL-iate?! 😉
I like what you said about remembering that T. Day is just one meal. It’s so easy to get caught up in the EAT ALL THE FOODS thing that goes around this time of year and well, since I’m already struggling to keep my eating structured and focussed, the last thing I need is a weekend-long binge. So thanks for the reminder…and also for scaring me with those candy wrappers! Holy crap! Guess it’s a good thing that I never get cravings for candy bars! 😯 Oh and I think I’ll be making some sort of salad this year…since my family is usually anti-green for any meal, it will be nice to have!

My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is that with my mom’s family we eat the same exact meal every single year. From my memory, the only deviations are in which green vegetable (broccoli versus peas and onions) we eat, and that now we often have not only ham, but also a conventional AND wild turkey, shot by one of my cousins.
For the most part, the sides are healthy, with a little less sugar added to certain dishes over the years…but I wouldn’t change a thing. 🙂

My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is going out to the desert. We bring a turkey and BBQ it and make some good stuffing and baked potatoes! So much fun with great friends!

I don’t do appetizers for Thanksgiving…my family is weird and leaves out sweet baby gherkin pickles and olives before dinner for snacking haha. I always make a side dish, though. The past few years it’s been a super easy, healthy, delicious sweet potato mash made in the crockpot with potatoes, pineapples, blackstrap molasses, salt, and cinnamon. Is it Thursday yet? lol
