I had a really fun, relaxing weekend in Nashville with some amazing ladies.
My dear friend, Heather, (miss Kiss My Broccoli herself) graciously invited me over for the weekend, and we couldn’t have had a better time together. We went to as many different cultural restaurants as we could, took a wonderfully long walk in the sunshine, snapped pictures of our breakfasts, and chatted non-stop. On Saturday, our friend Sarah (miss Smart Kitchen) joined us! Take a look —
[If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen a few of these as they happened! Lucky you!]
On Friday evening, Heather, her manfriend, and I went and had Thai (she and I had had sushi for lunch earlier!). Heather and I both got Tom Ka soup to start, then I had screamingly spicy red chicken curry and Heather ordered the duck curry! I was super impressed with all of it, and I couldn’t believe she was brave enough to order duck for the first time! Hooray!
For breakfast, I made oatmeal with cinnamon, topped with plain Fage 2% Greek yogurt, my first ever persimmon, cashews, and coconut chips!
Heather and I spent most of Saturday afternoon chatting while on a walk in the park! It was beautiful, sunny, and very windy outside. We talked until I literally could tell that I was losing my voice! I hadn’t realized that I usually am quiet at home and do all of my talking in type-form, until we spent this weekend together!
After Sarah got in and we could take a breath from chatting, we ran out for another food adventure. We had the most AMAZING Ethiopian food! I told Heather I wish I could stay for a week just to eat that meal again every single night. To say I loved it was the understatement of the century. We got the vegetarian sampler and the meat sampler to try as much as possible!
I’d say from our clean platters, we did pretty darn well.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a weekend at Heather’s without some pancakes, so I’d definitely say we ended on a high note (though there was no low note…so I guess it ended with a firework show). Heather made some seriously amazing pancakes. I don’t know what she’s planning on calling them yet, but I’ll call them Peachy Macaroon Pancakes, because they were peach, coconut and almond. SO good. No, peaches aren’t in season, but we hit an international market that had some peaches for an amazing price! Can’t pass that up!
Heather, thank you for your hospitality. You are truly a special woman and it fills my heart with so much joy to be able to call you my friend. I hope we can do this again very soon!
Sarah, I can’t believe this is the first time we’ve ever spent time together in person. I feel like I’ve known you for years! I see many food adventures in our future together!
Did you have an adventure this weekend?

Yay! It was so great to meet you in person for the first time…however, is it weird that I felt like we already had? I literally forgot we’d never been in the same place before. 🙂
I want to eat that meal again, too. Even if my stomach was angry about it all day yesterday. WORTH IT. [Plus, an excuse to buy kombucha is always welcomed.]

What a fun weekend! It’s always so fun to meet up with other bloggers. I just love that connection. And being able to meet in real life, it’s so odd but cool.
And those pancakes! Yum – look amazing.

Yes! Heather and I have hung out before, but Sarah and I had only been emailing for almost a year now. It was so great to all hang out and talk with our voices and not just in type 😉

No I haven’t! I was told that there are good Ethiopian restaurants here but haven’t found them yet! I’ll definitely google this one! Does the food look like what I had in the pictures?? I’m in love! 🙂

Oh yes! Abyssinia is great too! And they have a lunch buffet. As for the food, I prefer Derae. But they’re both delicious.
