My Grapefruit Sparkler cocktail is a super simple champagne drink, perfect for toasting to the New Year.
I’m sure you’re getting ready for New Year’s Eve and thinking you need a signature cocktail…right?
Right.
Well I’m over here, mixing cocktails and getting ready for my…9pm bedtime. I’ll just pretend like I’m in a different time zone. I’m learning, now that I have an infant, that staying up past the time my eyes get tired is just NOT worth it.
This cocktail is SUPER stupid simple. This is how I mix drinks. Keeping it to fresh fruit juice, a bit of a twist, and champagne makes sure the cocktail gets into the glass every time (and not just the first time and then refills with champagne afterwards).
This would taste pretty darn good with a flavorful orange, but grapefruit is so seasonally festive and turns champagne a beautiful shade of pink.
I freshly squeeze grapefruit juice into each glass, add a twizzle of grapefruit rind (squeeze the rind as you add it to the glass to release the oils), then top it all off with some bubbly.
Choosing champagne is not my forte, but you just need to choose what you like. If you like a more dry, bitter drink, choose a dry champagne. If you prefer something sweet, go with a sweeter variety. Grapefruit is quite tart and can brighten any glass of champagne.
Cheers to the New Year! I can’t wait to see what 2016 brings for all of us!
- Fresh grapefruits ( ¼ of a grapefruit for each glass)
- Champagne
- First, use a paring knife to carefully cut the rind off of the grapefruit in a long strand. Curl up a portion of the rind , ringing it tightly to release oils, and drop into a glass (you’ll want a portion of rind in each glass).
- Cut your grapefruit into quarters. Squeeze each quarter into a bowl first, fish out any seeds, and add the juice to your glass. Fill the rest of your glass with champagne. Toast, sip, enjoy!

What a delicious grape fruit sparkler, Melissa! Perfect for New Year’s Eve or any night. We don’t stay up ’til the ball drops anymore either, not worth it when the littles get up so early the next morning! Thanks for the fun festive drink recipe.

We have a ton of grapefruit and I was wondering what to do with it all. I can have champagne to celebrate a hard work day, right? 🙂
