Cinnamon Spiced Black Coffee is the perfect way to get back to drinking coffee black: filled with warm winter spices!
If you haven’t put two and two together yet: being a new mom means coffee is liquid life.
BUT I have loved coffee since I was a teen, so it truly is just a staple of my daily routine. The more and more I have different types of coffee and see it brewed in different ways, the more I love it.
I know I’m not alone in this, because entire cities are known for their “coffee culture.” Alas, I live in Mississippie though so I have to make my own coffee culture. Which is why I have an embarrassing amount of different brewers in my home. I just can’t help myself!
For this Cinnamon Spiced Black Coffee, I used the Siphon brewer from KitchenAid. I explained a bit about how it works in my post about Ganache Glazed Mocha Donuts. And I used the Burr Grinder to achieve the perfect size grounds (before this grinder, I had a simple one-speed grinder and would literally know how many seconds I needed to hold down the button for each type of grind I needed).
Use coffee beans that you truly love, too. If you think about your beans and immediately think “I’ll need to cover this up with…” then choose something else! I’ve used a “Midnight Blend” from Atlas Coffee Club, which is a dark roast. The Atlas Coffee Club is basically NatureBox for coffee addicts: comes to your doorstep, a different bean each month from a different region, and a fun card that tells you all about the bean and how to best brew it! Fun!
I chose to do a black coffee recipe because every so often, I have added SO much stuff to my cup that I forget that I really do love coffee with no sweetener or milk. I love a dark, warm cup of black coffee on a cold morning.
To keep the winter flavors rolling, I’ve spiced my black coffee with deliciously sweet cinnamon, floral cardamom and delicious allspice (you can add orange zest too, which is just wonderful). This coffee tastes like a hug from a spice cake is in your cup! And because it has such great flavor, you don’t need a ton of sugar or milk in your cup too. You won’t want it! I think.
Cinnamon Spiced Black Coffee is a perfect way to start the day, and a special touch to a boring cup of coffee if you have guests staying over! Enjoy!
- ½ cup coffee grounds*
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp allspice
- ¼ tsp cardamom
- optional: 1 tsp. orange zest
- filtered water
- Fill your coffee carafe to the 6-8 cup mark. Set up your coffee grounds plus the spices and zest (if you’re using it) in the correct filter area. Brew your coffee according to your coffee maker’s directions.
- Pour a cup, enjoy!
- If you must, add sweetener and milk to taste. Most importantly, enjoy it!
- *Use your favorite coffee beans and freshly grind them according to the size needed for your brewer. For the Siphon brewer, I ground them with the KitchenAid Burr grinder to a fine ground, but if you’re using a French Press, use a coarse ground. Use a coffee bean that you truly love to drink black.

Oh! I also want a hug from this coffee! 🙂 Sounds delicious. I cannot do black coffee if it’s hot, but can do black iced coffee. I always need a small splash of coconut milk to complete my morning mug!

I’m not a mom but coffee is still my liquid life 🙂 Love the spices in here. I hoard TJ’s gingerbread coffee during the holidays so I can drink it all year round…it has a lot of the same spices you put in this!

Oh good idea!

First, I love this Siphon coffee maker. I’m so excited to check it out! And…it’s pretty to look at, so I’m okay with this on the counter! Next, these spices to the coffee would make a fab cup! I can’t stop thinking about it and waiting for morning. I’m going to try this for sure!
