Back to cold weather and hot drinks. My Golden Turmeric Cocoa Moon Milk is just the thing to soothe you on these brisk evenings. Wrap yourself in a blanket and whip one up (in the blender!). This Golden Hot Cocoa is rich, warm, and naturally sweetened and full of anti-inflammatory ingredients.
Moon Milk is a pretty woo woo thing that is totally inspired by Wu Haus. To me, it’s a hot drink that is completely natural, calming, and meant to be sipped in the evening. And since I love a good hot cocoa or turmeric latte at night, a Golden Turmeric Cocoa Moon Milk is what I’m naturally gravitating towards.
After a week of Sugar Detoxing, I realized that my tendency towards a hot drink in the evening is STRONG and my missing chocolate in all forms could be easily remedied by a hot cocoa. So how do you have hot cocoa without sugar? A date!
Ah yes, so many things can be solved by a magical medjool date.
Dates are naturally insanely sweet and taste like caramel. I use them in anything blended to add a hit of sweetness without adding any honey/maple/stevia. Of course, a glug of maple syrup would be amazing in this recipe too, and if you love a really sweet cocoa, a second date would be awesome. But I found that one date in this drink was a perfect balance.
This drink is made in the blender. I used my Vitamix, so I didn’t need to strain it. If your blender is a little sad when it blends, you may need to soak your cashews and date beforehand or strain the cocoa as you pour it into your cup, but since cashews tend to be soft and full of luscious fats, they typically blend away easily.
Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory spice. It’s truly mellow yet spicy, and it mixes wonderfully with cinnamon. It’s activated when combined with black pepper, so don’t skip that tiny pinch. Don’t worry, you won’t have a peppery or spicy drink. For more turmeric love, try this coffee and my oats recipes!
