Wow, that’s a mouthful! But we need to talk about shaving some sensitive areas. Of course, I’m talking arm pits and bikini area, but you can take that notion and apply it to whatever works for you. This is: Sensitive Area Shaving Essentials for Summer!
I’m one of those super lucky ladies who gets wicked razor burn, has a TON of Greek hair, and gets salt burns on areas she shaves if she’s at the beach. So lucky.
After years of grilling my best girlfriends for their hair removal advice and trying many many things, I finally hit the jackpot this summer.
I’d like to take a side tangent: I HATE that toiletries that are marketed towards women are drastically over priced. Like, ridiculous. So I rarely buy anything that is labeled “for women” when it’s a unisex problem. Shaving definitely falls into that category. And because men shave their sensitive faces, I feel like I’m more prone to trust anything that works for a man versus marketed to me and colored pink. Although I love pink.
Here’s the four products I’ve whittled this down to: an exfoliant, a shave oil, the razor, and aftershave.
Tons of threads about going to the beach recommend you scrub off all salt that is stuck to your skin with a sugar scrub. Makes sense to me. And because sugar scrubs also get off all dead skin surrounding the hair follicles so you can shave closer, even more of a reason why it should be the first thing you do. I chose this gentle one that’s really well priced and smells awesome.

Next, shave oil. Yup, this was a new one for me. But lot’s of Amazon reviews of men’s shaving products led me to conclude I needed to try a shave oil instead of a cream or soap. Although it’s translucent when you put it on, it makes shaving super easy! I’m sold! I use it on my bikini area and underarms, and still use a soap for my legs, but this has made ALL the difference.
Razor talk time. Like I said before, marketing towards women is crazy business. So for years now I’ve been using Dollar Shave Club and truly loving it. I skip a lot of the monthly shipments because I don’t change the blades every week, so I have a great supply of extras in my bathroom. The razors they send are awesome quality, super sharp, and that’s really all you need! Plus, you’re saving SO much money. Do it.
Finally, men use an aftershave to shock and close up open pores after shaving. And it works. So why are we not doing it too? I found one that doesn’t smell heavily like an Abercrombie and doesn’t burn my skin a’la Home Alone. Choose one that is generally natural and has caffeine to soothe skin and close pores. Immediately after I hope out of the shower I apply a thin layer to my pits and bikini line.
If you’re like me and spend a lot of the summer hoping nobody notices how red and bumpy your shaved skin is, then these four steps are worth every moment for you. And once they’re habit, you’ll wonder why you didn’t always do this. Plus, I feel like I can settle my mind because I don’t have “maybe I should go get waxed” looming in my mind.
I’ll also give a nod to a popular extra step if you’re interested: the electric trimmer. A lot of my friends say they use one to keep things a bit more tame in the swim suit months. Safer than scissors, right?

Great read, you’ve got some good products there, I especially love the sugar scrub for exfoliating. I’m not into shaving much anymore since I;ve been using an epilator but a lot of people would not use one on very sensitive areas. I love it because it gives you smoother skin for longer but its not as comfortable as shaving!
